Children and Family Wellness Center believes in Restorative Justice so if a family has a suspended or a child who was involved with the law, we offer a place and space that the wounded and wrongdoer can learn from their mistake using Restorative Justice core concept.
In successful Restorative Justice Programs, the wounded and wrongdoer enter the center at different times. Both are spoken to separately before coming together in the community building circles, where they talk about problems and voice their concerns, and this process encourages peer-to-peer respect. The community circle is filled by whomever the wounded and wrongdoer would like to be there to start the healing process within the community.
The foundational principles of restorative justice have been summarized as follows: Crime causes harm and justice should focus on repairing that harm. The people most affected by the crime should be able to participate in its resolution.
Restorative justice places the victim and the offender at the center of the process as its main characters, seeking their empowerment and satisfaction, the reparation of the harm caused, the involvement of the community, and the re-establishment of the existing human relationships.
